If you are considering abortion and live in Georgia, it’s vital to know the state’s laws. Currently, Georgia has banned abortion if the unborn child has a detectable heartbeat.
If you are under the age of 18, the law also requires that you notify a parent or guardian. The only exceptions include saving the life of the mother, preserving the woman’s physical health, or if the fetus is not expected to survive the pregnancy.
Your first step is to confirm the gestational age of your pregnancy. How do you do that? By getting a free and confidential pregnancy test and ultrasound at First Choice Women’s Center.

Our Services Are Free and Confidential
If you are under the age of 18, you most likely don’t have the funds to afford an ultrasound. Plus, you may be concerned about telling your parents that you might be pregnant.
Come to First Choice for free and confidential services. You can receive free medical-grade pregnancy testing. If your pregnancy test is positive, we’ll provide a free and confidential limited obstetrical ultrasound.
Why Would I Need an Ultrasound?
An ultrasound is the easiest way to determine precisely how far along you are in your pregnancy. Women often misjudge the date they got pregnant. By taking measurements, an ultrasound can determine the gestational age.
An ultrasound also determines the location of the pregnancy. Only the uterus can support a developing pregnancy. If the pregnancy is not located in your uterus, it is called an ectopic pregnancy.
An ectopic pregnancy can be extremely dangerous, even life-threatening. If your pregnancy is ectopic, you will need to see your health care provider immediately.
Additionally, an ultrasound determines if your pregnancy is developing or if you have had a miscarriage. Experts estimate that as many as 26% of all pregnancies end in a miscarriage.
Many miscarriages occur before a woman even realizes she’s pregnant.
You can still get a positive pregnancy test result days or even weeks after a miscarriage because it takes a woman’s body time to return to pre-pregnancy hormone levels. By five or six weeks, an ultrasound can usually detect a heartbeat.
If the ultrasound detects a fetal heartbeat, your pregnancy is developing.
